HP Omen 17-CB1080NR LCD Replacement
A friend of my wife's needed a screen repaired on her laptop. The friend is a photographer and uses the laptop to edit images. I traded the repair service for a family photo shoot. The laptop was an HP Omen 17-CB1080NR
I found a replacement LCD on Amazon for a decent price. The adhesive strips are important.
HP Is pretty good at making service manuals publicly available. You can find the service manual for this model at the link below.
After removing the bottom cover, paying attention to the area where the hdmi and usb ports are, the first thing to come out is that battery which is a pretty simple task on this one.
You will have to take move the wires routed along the side of the fan.
Disconnect the fan wires and remove the screw holding the fans and heat-sink down.
Gently work the cooling assembly free.
Since we're replacing just the LCD, the bezel will have to come off so the LCD can be taken off the lid cover.
NOTE: The bezel is adhered to the LCD with two sided tape, or at least was on this one. The bezel also came off in two pieces, one across the top of the display and the other made up the other three sides of the frame.
There are two adhesive strips under the LCD panel. Find the tabs and using forceps gently pull, and wrap the strips around the forceps as it comes out. It takes a bit of time to get them all the way out so be careful so as not to break the strips.
Once the LCD panel is free we need to transfer the cable from the old panel to the new one. Peel up the tape over the connecter and gently pull the cable end free.
You should put a piece of tape over the cable end once it's connected the same way it was on the old one. Make sure the oddly short adhesive strips are put on close enough to bottom of the lcd that the tabs can be reached. I suggest using some double sided tape to secure the bezel on the way it was before also.
Assemble the laptop parts and reconnect cables in the exact reverse order they were removed. I took some time to blow debris out of the fans and off the board. Also, before putting the heat sink and fan assembly back in place you will need to clean the cpu and gpu chips and give them some fresh thermal paste.
